Muhammad Rizky Fajarullah, Makassar – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially inaugurated the Centralized Domestic Wastewater Management System (SPAL-DT) in Losari, Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday.
"The centralized domestic wastewater management system in Losari is crucial to handle liquid waste in an environmentally friendly manner and improve the quality of groundwater, raw water, and the overall health of our society," President Jokowi told reporters in Makassar on Thursday.
President Jokowi explained that SPAL-DT was constructed from 2019 to 2023, with a total cost of Rp 1.2 trillion ($76.8 million).
"With a capacity of 16,000 cubic meters per day, a pipeline network stretching 96 km, and the ability to serve 41,000 households," Jokowi said.
Jokowi also expressed his hope that the system would raise public awareness about environmental pollution issues in the city of Makassar.
"Makassar will become cleaner, and the environmental quality, groundwater quality, and raw water quality will improve, leading to a healthier and more productive community," said Jokowi.
