Bagus Pribadi, Jakarta – The National Commission on Human Rights or Komnas HAM received over 5,301 complaints throughout 2023. These complaints were originated both from Indonesia and overseas.

"Out of 5,301 complaints, as many as 2,753 were of alleged human rights violations," said the Coordinator of Human Rights Enforcement Sub-commission Uli Parulian Sihombing during a press conference at Komnas HAM Building, Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 25.

Despite experiencing a decrease in complaint submissions in 2023, Uli said, the substances remained the same; the authorities' unprofessionalism in law enforcement procedure.

"The substance remains the same, majority of the complaints we received concerned unprofessionalism [of law enforcement] procedure by law enforcement officers," Parulian said.

In that category, Komnas HAM mainly received complaints about members of the police.

"[Complaints against] police were 613, agrarian conflicts were 582, and the other complaints were about the neglect of venerable groups and manpower. [Complaints against] corporations were 412, and regional governments were 301. These were just the allegations," Uli concluded.
