Tempo.Co, Jakarta – State power company PLN recorded electricity sales volume in 2023 reaching 285.23 terawatt hours (TWh). This was a growth of 5.32 percent year on year (yoy) from 2022's 270.82 TWh.

PLN Darmawan Prasodjo said that the achievement was supported by the company's change in perspective in business development.

"From a previously stagnant and backward looking view, which was only supply-oriented, we have turned into developing the business expansively and dynamically, forward looking, and oriented towards demand and customer satisfaction," Darmawan said in a statement received in Jakarta, Monday.

The business segment was one of the main pillars of PLN's income with a growth of 12.53 percent. Meanwhile, the industrial segment is the largest contributor to electricity sales with 30.72 percent of total energy sales.

PLN also said that another contributing factor to 2023's positive achievement was the extensification strategy, through which the company created new electricity demand that responded to electricity needs throughout the country. This included the captive power acquisition program, appealing to business and industrial customers to migrate from using their own power plants into using PLN's.

Throughout 2023, PLN noted 10 top customers participating in the captive power acquisition program: PT South Pacific, PT Yamaha Indonesia, PT Grand Indonesia I and PT Grand Indonesia II, PT Bridgestone Tire, PT Pindodeli I and PT Pindodeli II, PT Indah Kiat Serang, PT Aspex Kumbong, and PT Indah Kiat Tangerang.

Not only the captive power acquisition program, PLN said that the extensification strategy was also carried out through electrifying agriculture and marine programs, which provide business actors with easier access to electricity, making their businesses more productive and environmentally friendly.
