Arnoldus Kristianus, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has spent Rp 23.4 trillion ($1.5 billion) thus far to cover the expenses related to presidential and legislative elections. This figure is expected to increase as the election process continues into the next year.
The upcoming calendar includes the presidential and legislative elections slated for February, followed by gubernatorial and mayoral elections nationwide in November.
Finance Ministry records indicate that the 2023 budget has allocated Rp 30.4 trillion for the elections, with additional funding set for the upcoming fiscal year.
Of the realized expenditures, Rp 20 trillion has been utilized for election logistics and preparatory tasks managed by the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu). Additionally, Rp 3.4 trillion has been allocated for election security, dissemination efforts, and publications involving related ministries and state agencies.
As of December 21, the overall spending outlined in the 2023 state budget has reached Rp 3,061 trillion. This comprises Rp 1,998 trillion in central government spending and Rp 771.4 trillion in regional government spending.
