Yuni Rohmawati, Jakarta – Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) urged Jakarta Metro Police investigators to immediately detain Firli Bahuri, a suspect in the alleged extortion case against former minister of agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
"It is time for the Police to detain suspect Firli Bahuri today. This detention will speed up the legal process of the alleged corruption case by suspect Firli," IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso told Tempo on Thursday, Dec. 21.
In addition to detaining the acting chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Sugeng hoped that investigators would also immediately declare the case complete or P21, in a bid to expedite the resolution of the case.
"This will encourage the emergence of legal certainty for the community," Sugeng added.
Firli Bahuri asks for his probe to be postponed
Ian Iskandar, an attorney for the former police inspector general, requested a postponement of the further investigation into the alleged extortion case because of an urgent agenda.
"We have requested a postponement from Metro Police investigators because there are simultaneous activities," Ian said today.
It was claimed that among Firli Bahuri's agenda was the Ethics Session at the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas). Ian added that his client had another agenda that was scheduled last week which he could not reveal. "One of which may be attending the examination by [KPK] Dewas," he said.
