Bagus Pribadi, Jakarta – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Ali Fikri spoke of possible legal aid for former KPK Head Agus Rahardjo. Agus was reported by a group of people over his confession on President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's alleged intervention in the e-KTP corruption case involving Setyo Novanto.
"It is provided in the governmental regulation. All former KPK heads are eligible to receive legal aid upon request," he said on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
However, Ali said, Agus Rahardjo is the one who must request aid from KPK. Legal aid is part of the rights to protocol, financial, and security guards for former KPK heads.
Earlier, a group of people who named themselves DPP Pandawa Nusantara submitted a report to the National Police about Agus' statement on Jokowi's intervention. The Secretary-General, Faisal Anwar, said that the statement was defamation of Jokowi's character.
In an interview with a television station, Agus Rahardjo admitted that he was once reprimanded by Jokowi following KPK's investigation of the e-KTP corruption case. Jokowi, he claimed, asked that the investigation be halted.
At that time, Agus was asked to come alone to meet the president, a deviation from the norm since usually, Jokowi would ask to meet all five of the KPK heads.
The coordinator of presidential special staff Ari Dwipayana said that there were no scheduled meetings between Jokowi and Agus Rahardjo at that date in 2017. He also stressed that Jokowi released a statement on Nov. 17, 2017, asking Setyo Novanto to abide by the legal process as a corruption suspect.
"Important to note that the KPK Law revision in 2019 was initiated by the House of Representatives, not the [President] and it happened two years after Setyo Novanto was named a suspect," he concluded.
