His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Monday received in audience Dr Jose Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste who is here on a four-day state visit.
His Majesty welcomed the arrival of the President on the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman, where both leaders received the Salute of Honour on the Special Dais, accompanied by the national anthems of both countries and a twenty-one gun salute.
The two leaders then inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Following the State Welcoming Ceremony, both leaders attended an Audience Ceremony, held a Four-Eye Meeting, and a Bilateral Meeting.
During the Bilateral Meeting, His Majesty highlighted that bilateral cooperation between both countries has expanded in many areas since establishing diplomatic relations in 2002. His Majesty therefore said that he looked forward to continuing the work in further enhancing the goodwill and friendship between both countries.
Both leaders also emphasised the importance of existing cooperation including the areas of education and people-to-people exchanges. They welcomed the strengthening of relations in health and energy cooperation as well as the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Employment/Recruitment of Timor-Leste Workers to Brunei Darussalam.
