Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – The Indonesian Police's Task Force for Human Trafficking Crimes (TPPO) revealed that 2,693 people had become victims of human trafficking crimes between June 5, 2023, which was when the task force was formed, and September 19, 2023.

The Police Headquarters' head of PR Bureau, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan, said that the TPPO Task Force and the regional police have handled 842 reports of human trafficking in the same period.

"There are 1,011 suspects of human trafficking cases," Ramadhan said in a written statement on Wednesday, September 20.

Ramadhan said human traffickers use a number of MOs. The most common, he said, is trafficking the victims as illegal migrant workers (PMI) or domestic workers (PRT). There have been 522 cases of this type.

Another MO is turning victims into commercial sex workers with 282 cases. There were also seven cases where the criminals made the victims into crew members (ABK). Meanwhile, 69 cases of child exploitation have also been recorded.

Ramadhan urges people not to fall for high-paying job offers abroad. Ramadhan asked the public to always ensure that the company trying to recruit them is official and has permission to distribute workers.
