Police investigate fires engulfing offices and houses in Dogiyai

Jayapura, Jubi – The Dogiyai Police is currently conducting an investigation into the recent burning incidents that took place on Monday, July 31, 2023. The affected structures include the offices of the National Unity and Politics Agency and the Dogiyai Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Office in Central Papua Province. Additionally, eight boarding houses in Ekemanida Village, Kamu District, were also engulfed in flames on the same day.

According to Dogiyai Police chief Comr. Surraju, his team is examining all available information regarding the fires, including the possibility that a specific group might have intentionally set them.

The incidents occurred at different locations, with the fire on Trans Nabire – Enarotali Road happening around 10:00 a.m. Papua time, and the fire in Ekemanida Village occurred approximately twenty minutes later. The boarding house was unoccupied at the time.

Papua Police spokesperson Sr. Come. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo stated that the fire incident also burned a former office building in Kimupugi Village, Kamu District. The authorities are still in the process of investigating the causes of the fires and the extent of the damages.

He urged the public to remain calm and avoid being provoked by the situation. He emphasized that the police are handling the case, and it is essential for all parties to cooperate and allow the authorities to carry out their investigation effectively. (*)
