Antara, Jakarta – Metro Jaya Police Department have received a report on the harassment toward a national TV journalist covering a discussion held by Golkar Youth Generation (GMPG) in Pulau Dua Restaurant, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, yesterday on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
"It is true that we have received the report," said Metro Jaya Police Department Head of Public Relations Chief Commissioner Trunodoyo Wisnu Andiko when asked in Jakarta, on Thursday, July 27, 2023. However, Trunodoyo could not elaborate on the next measure taken by the police regarding the report. "We are still examining the report," he said.
The harassment and obstruction of journalism were perpetrated by several unknown persons calling themselves Golkar's Youth Wing (AMPG). The group asked the journalists recording the meeting to stop working and hit one of the national TV cameramen on the camera and chin. The group also broke one of the journalist's phones after they tried to record the incident.
The victim, JP, relayed that the group suddenly came to the location trying to stop the meeting. When JP tried to record it, one of the people in the group approached them and hit them. "Just seconds after I record them, the person approached me and hit my camera and my chin," JP said.
The victim then reported the incident to Metro Jaya Police Department with report number STTLP/B/4348/VII/2023/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 18:09 p.m.
Meanwhile, the President of AMPG, Ilham Permana, mums on the claim that his organization was the agitator. Quoted from Koran Tempo Thursday, July 27, 2023, edition, Ilham apologized to journalists on the incident and questioned the status of GMPG. "GMPG is not known in the Golkar Party," he said.
