Jayapura, Jubi – The Damal Student Association in Beoga District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua Province, has asked the local government to pay attention to the needs of the community regarding health services.

Chairman of the Association Tolekinus Tenbak said that since January 2023 until today, health services at the Beoga Health Center had not been running because there were no health workers.

"Recently we got a call from a parent saying that there are no health services in Beoga. So many sick people cannot be served," Tenbak said during a visit to Jubi's editorial office on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

He said that people who want treatment prefer to go to Timika by plane from Beoga as there is no service at the local health center. "But only the people who have money can go to Timika for treatment," he added.

For this reason, students want the Puncak Regency government to bring back health workers to serve the community.

Another student, Kem Magai, said that it was not only health workers who were absent, medicines were also unavailable at the local health center. "We ask the Puncak Health Agency to immediately pay attention to health services in Beoga. There is currently no service and no medicine," said Magai.

The health workers in Beoga, both doctors and nurses, were withdrawn following the last firefight in the region.

The Beoga Health Center serves the community in five districts, namely Beoga, East Beoga, West Beoga, Wangbe and East Wangbe. The distance from Beoga to the capital of Puncak Regency, Illaga, can only be reached by air travel of approximately 30 minutes flight. (*)
