Antara, Jakarta – Jayapura Resort Police launched an investigation into the bomb attack that occurred near the house of senior Papuan journalist Victor Mambor, on Monday, January 23, 2023.
"Yes, someone threw a bomb. It's still being investigated by the Jayapura Police," said Papua Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo on Monday evening.
Benny explained that the local police conducted an examination after the report was received, one of which was by exploring the crime scene.
The Indonesian Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) condemned the terror act happening near the house of the senior journalist who is also a member of AJI's Advisory Council.
AJI Jayapura in a written statement revealed that the bomb exploded on the side of the road, about three meters from the wall of Victor Mambor's house in Angkasapura Village, North Jayapura District, Jayapura City. The incident took place at around 04:00 eastern Indonesian time (WIT).
Based on the CCTV camera footage installed in one part of Victor's house, it could be seen that a Honda motorbike passed the house before the explosion occurred.
This terror act was the second occurrence after the first on April 21, 2022. At that time, Victor's Isuzu D-Max car parked on the side of the road beside his house was vandalized by unknown persons.
The case had been reported to the Jayapura Police, but the perpetrators have not been found to date. It was suspected that the terror attacks were related to journalistic products made by Jubi media company led by Victor Mambor.
