Defara Dhanya Paramitha (Bisnis), Jakarta – The Investment Ministry's Deputy of Investment Cooperation Riyatno confirmed that the government's decision to restrict the exports of raw mining products such as lead, bauxite, and copper will be implemented in gradual steps.

"As what the Minister had instructed, the exports of the mining products will start gradually," said Riyatno in a text message to Tempo on September 27.

The ban on exports of raw commodities is an effort to accelerate domestic downstream capabilities. Previously, G20 member countries had also agreed to support industrial downstream, especially in developing countries which is mentioned in the Bali Compendium.

The agreement is in line with the implementation of the G20 Trade, Investment, and Industry Ministerial Meeting (TIIMM) which will take place on 22-23 September 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali. The G20 Forum agreed that Indonesia and other developing countries should not be intervened in terms of mining product downstream acceleration.

Indonesia has already halted the exports of nickel ore, which was effective on January 1, 2020. This is overseen by the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister's Regulation No. 11/2019. Because of this policy, Indonesia was taken to the World Trade Organization (WTO) court by European Union countries. The Bali Compendium is believed to stop this legal battle.
