Riri Rahayu, Jakarta – The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, declared that the workers will conduct a nationwide strike in November or December against the hike in subsidized fuel prices.
"Nationwide strike means a total stop on production activities," said Said when met on the sidelines of the labor demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
Said explained that the rejection of the increase in fuel prices will continue to be carried out by the workers. Further actions will be held if the government does not respond to the workers' demand of canceling the fuel price increase.
Around 1,500 workers join today's protest in front of the DPR Building. The rally is expected to last until 15:00 Jakarta time. Similar demonstrations are also staged in 20 provinces simultaneously, precisely in front of the governor's offices.
Said also called for a public movement against the fuel price hike through social media. He believed that President Jokowi will hear their voices. "The president needs to hear our voices," he said.
