Jakarta (Antara) – The government has announced that all regions of Indonesia are under the public activity restriction or PPKM level 1, the least stringent of the four-level COVID-19 curbs.
"As the results of the PPKM assessment and based on expert considerations, all regions in Indonesia are at level 1," said Director General of Regional Administration of the Home Affairs Ministry Safrizal ZA in a written statement, Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
The curbs are still being implemented albeit with a downward trend over the past week. The regulation is stipulated in the Home Affairs Ministry's Instruction No. 42 of 2022 for Java and Bali, and the Ministry's Instruction No. 43 of 2022 for Outside Java and Bali which are valid until October 3, 2022.
Safrizal explained that the two regulations are not much different from the previous ones, where based on experts' suggestions, all regions are under PPKM Level 1 although the COVID-19 positivity rate is still above the WHO standard.
"We must continue to be vigilant because until now our positivity rate for the past 30 days is still above the normal standard set by WHO, which is 5 percent," he said.
Safrizal also emphasized that local governments must continue to collaborate to expedite the COVID-19 vaccination coverage. Moreover, the latest regulation requires travelers using public transportation, such as trains and planes, to present a certificate of a booster jab.
"The national booster vaccination coverage is still below 30 percent. We continue to urge regional heads to synergize with all parties to campaign for vaccinations again, especially the follow-up doses, in community centers," Safrizal underlined.
