Francisca Christy Rosana, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the number of foreign visits to the country in May 2022 sharply increased by 1,382.45 percent year on year.
"Compared to the previous month, the number of foreign tourist visits in May 2022 also increased by 91.19 percent," said BPS Head Margo Yuwono on Friday, July 1, 2022.
The surge in international tourist visits occurred after the government opened its borders at several airports and ports and relaxed travel requirements such as quarantine-free entry amid the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with the soaring number of foreign visits, the room occupancy rate of star hotels in May 2022 also increased by 49.85 percent, or 17.88 points year on year. When compared to the previous month, the rate also jumped by 15.62 points.
Additionally, the room occupancy rate of non-star hotels in May 2022 increased by 24.75 percent, up 6.69 points year on year. The monthly rate also rose 7.35 points.
