M Julnis Firmansyah, Jakarta – Indonesia logged 40,920 new cases of Covid-19 in a day as of Wednesday noon, March 2. According to the Health Ministry's data, West Java Province recorded the most cases with 8,569, followed by East Java with 4,911.
Jakarta recorded the third-highest daily log with 4,196 cases.
The Ministry's data also recorded that over the last 24 hours 376 people have died from the new coronavirus, while 42,935 recovered.
With today's number of infections, Indonesia has now 536,823 active cases.
Wiku Adisasmito, the spokesman for the National Covid-19 Task Force, said the government had drawn up a new strategy to deal with the pandemic. Adjustments are being made to ensure health protocols remain implemented amidst the resumption of economic activities.
"Adjustments such as operating the economic sector with gradual reopenings, coupled with close monitoring," he said.
Wiku added that the bubble policy system, which has been implemented in several areas, will continue to be refined in accordance with the readiness and capacity of the provinces that implement it.
