Mirza Bagaskara, Jakarta – Indonesian officials said the country has now recorded 254 confirmed Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant. The majority, 239 of them, are imported cases while 15 are local transmissions.

The Health Ministry's spokesman for Covid-19 vaccination, Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, said that a large portion of the cases are found among people who have been on international travels.

"The majority are still dominated by international travelers. From the results of monitoring, most patients exhibit mild symptoms or asymptomatic. The most common symptoms are coughs and colds," Nadia said in a press statement on Monday, January 4.

Addressing the increasing cases of the Omicron variant, Nadia said the government will prepare a number of countermeasures to prevent it from spreading further. One of these regulations is to strengthen testing, tracing, treatment (3T) activities.

On January 4, the Indonesian Health Ministry recorded 92 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
