Antara, Jakarta – Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin in a written statement on Friday announced that the Attorney General's Office (AGO) will commence a general investigation against a wide array of severe human rights violation cases to round out the investigation report by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

He said this is the institution's attempt to solve the deadlock on solving these cases and complete those that have yet been solved.

"I am certain that the policy will solve the deadlock issue and resolve human rights cases that have been in arrears so far," said Sanitiar Burhanuddin on November 26.

Moreover, he explained that solving past human rights cases seemed to have temporarily stopped and lacked clarity caused by a deadlock in perception between Komnas HAM and AGO investigators. Burhanuddin said Komnas HAM investigations are not qualified to be progressed into an investigation.

He claimed it was due to the pieces of evidence that have yet been discovered to determine a suspect. Investigators have also not examined key witnesses and documents that are expected to explain elements of crimes against humanity and elements of widespread or systematic attacks.
