Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – Indonesia is seeing an increasing rate of new infections over the past week. The National Covid-19 Task Force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito said that five provinces recorded the highest increase in new cases, including Jakarta and Papua.

Over the week, West Papua's cases rose by 100, Yogyakarta's up by 77, Jakarta's increased by 46 new cases, Southeast Sulawesi 7 cases, and Bangka Belitung Islands rose by 5.

Wiku stressed that even though the number of new cases is quite low, everyone must be on alert.

"We ask the governors of those five provinces to immediately coordinate with regents and mayors and anticipate more case hikes in the following week," Wiku said on Tuesday, November 9.

This week, the five provinces with the highest number of active cases are Central Java with 1,650 cases, Papua (1,629), West Java (1,568), Jakarta (1,536) and North Kalimantan (738).
