Jakarta – The Detachment 88 (Densus) Special Anti-Terrorist Unit says that the material found at the scene of an explosion at lawyer and Papua activist Veronica Koman's Jakarta home on Sunday November 7 does not resemble the bomb materials usually used by terrorists.

As has been reported, an explosion occurred at the home of Koman's parents in the Jelembar Baru area of West Jakarta on Sunday.

"It cannot yet be concluded that the materials expelled by the explosion are the type of bomb materials which are usually used by existing terrorist groups", said Densus 88 operational assistance division chief Senior Commissioner Aswin Siregar when sought for confirmation on Sunday evening.

According to Siregar, Densus 88 will continue monitoring the incident. Nevertheless, he said, the terrorist networks being monitored by Densus 88 with the logo of an owl have yet to show any link with the incident.

Siregar explained that Densus 88 is still conducting an investigation through the Jakarta regional task force and investigators from the West Jakarta district police criminal investigations division.

"Witnesses from the family have already made out a police report and the case is being handled by the Tanjung Duren sectoral police", he explained.

Siregar said that they will continue coordinating and monitoring the investigation process into the incident.

As has been reported, material suspected to be a bomb exploded at the home of Koman's parents at around 10.45 am. The explosion is suspected to be an act of terror by unknown individuals.

Based on reports received by CNN Indonesia, a laminated piece of paper was found at the scene of the crime containing a threat against Koman if the police are unable to arrest her.

Written under the threatening message was "Homeland Militant Militia Defenders" (Laskar Militan Pembela Tanah Air).

Veronica Koman is an activist who has provided a great deal of assistance to Papuans that support independence from Indonesia. She is also a former lawyer from the Jakarta Legal Aid Foundation (LBH Jakarta) who has handled many cases of human rights violations against minority groups.

Koman is currently in exile in Australia after being charged by Indonesian police for alleged incitement related to demonstrations which broke out in Papua and ended in riots in September 2019. (mjo/ain)
