Jakarta – Indonesia recorded 16,744 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday to take the country's total to 3,967,048. While the surge in newly cases has been slowing in recent weeks, the daily death toll continues to top 1,000.

There have been 1,361 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the Indonesian outbreak to 125,342. It's the 36th day in a row that the daily death toll passes the 1,000 mark.

West and Central Java reported more than 300 deaths each in the day, while East java registered 213 deaths.

The total number of active cases stands at 319,658, the lowest since the peak in late July when the country's health system was nearing collapse with more than 580,000 active cases.

The country of 272 million has administered 88.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, with 31.2 million citizens fully vaccinated.

The government aims to vaccinate at least 208 million people to reach the population immunity.
