Indonesia ranks third in the world for new Covid-19 cases over past 28 days

Zacharias Wuragil, Jakarta – Indonesia instantly jumped to the top three in the world for the number of new Covid-19 cases over the past 28 days, according to Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 data dashboard.

Johns Hopkins University tweaked its front-page presentation of Covid-19 real-time data. As seen on Thursday night, August 12, the dashboard shows the ranking of countries by case numbers over the past 28 days.

Indonesia ranked third in the world, below the United States and India. The archipelago even ranked first if it is only judged from the death numbers.

Indonesia logged 1,079,400 new cases with 42,988 deaths in the past 28 days, bringing the total case numbers since the onset of the pandemic to 3,774,155 with a death toll of 113,664.

The United States recorded the highest new case numbers over the past 28 days with 2,242,949 infections, followed by India with 1,089,286 cases. Brazil, meanwhile, ranked fourth with 1,035,536 new cases. Their death numbers were 10,465, 17,680, and 28,354, respectively.

As for the total tally since the start of the pandemic, the U.S. still recorded the largest number with nearly 36.2 million and the death toll of more than 618,000, followed by India with 32 million positive cases and the death toll of almost 430,000, and Brazil 20.2 million cases and more than 476,000 deaths.
