Budiarti Putri Utami, Jakarta – Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) mitigation team head Mohammad Adib Khumaidi on Monday suggested the government to utilize the services of post-internship doctors in the battle against Covid-19 surge, which is currently showing signs of overwhelming medical workers.

"Post-internship doctors can substitute or assist the need for general doctors. Surely they have the authority, competence, and are already registered," said Khumaidi to Tempo on July 5.

The doctors he refers to are the ones that have graduated competence assessments which can be mobilized as active general practitioners across hospitals that are in need of extra medical workers. Medical specialists, he said, will also be considered to assist in facilities that urgently need their help.

"WHat we need now is to map out each area's facilities and human resources and determine the condition in the field along with the number of patients that are admitted," said the IDI mitigation team leader.

The main issue that currently haunts the Indonesian medical workers is not fatigue, he argues, but more about the lack of replacements to fill in the position of doctors who unfortunately are exposed to Covid-19.
