Antara, Jakarta – The Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN) in Thursday's meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) recommended the House to quickly pass the second changes in Bill No. 21/2021 on the special autonomy in the Papua Province.

"We recommend to fast-track the amendment on the Papua special autonomy law, so it would not coincide with the 20th National Games (PON) to be held in the province," said BIN deputy Teddy Lhaksmana Widya on May 27.

Teddy claimed that BIN believes Papuan separatists will use the 2021 National Games to create instability to attract the attention of the international community. BIN and also mentioned two names notable in West Papua's liberation movement Benny Wenda and Veronica Koman.

"BIN has detected security disturbance designed to create a gripping situation to cover up the misuse and misappropriation of the special autonomy funds," said the State Intelligence deputy.

State Intelligence also recommended law enforcers to act firmly against perpetrators of corruption and nepotism of the Papua special autonomy funds. The funds mainly used for the development of four sectors in Papua; infrastructure, healthcare services, education, and economy.
