Imam Hamdi, Jakarta – Epidemiologist from the University of Indonesia Tri Yunis Miko Wahyono reminded the Jakarta Provincial Government to be aware of Covid-19 transmission during Ramadan.

"Religious activities that cause crowds up to crowds in stalls selling takjil (breaking-of-the-fast light snacks) have the potential for virus transmission. This must be watched out by the government," Tri said on Tuesday, April 20, 2201.

According to him, the drop in cases is not yet significant. The city's positivity rate is still at around 10 percent, meaning that the pandemic is not yet under control.

The city government, he added, must ensure that health protocols are implemented during Ramadan activities such as tarawih and other prayers in mosques. "Don't take off guard because this virus spreads very quickly."

Tri predicted that the spike in cases will continue during this fasting month and the peak will occur after the Eid al-Fitr holiday given rising public mobility albeit the ban on Eid homecoming.

Besides, public compliance with the health protocols in almost all regions has decreased as people are bored with the Covid-19 pandemic for the past year. "Just wait for the explosion [of cases]," said Tri.
