Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in Twitter wrote that the retraction of the law on alcohol investments announced by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Monday is proof that the government is not allergic to criticism.
Jokowi decided to revoke Presidential Regulation No. 10/2021 on alcoholic beverage investments for certain regions after taking a backlash from numerous Islamic organizations such as MUI, PBNU, Muhammadiyah, and other organizations.
"The government revokes it when criticism arrives aimed at the law on alcohol investment for certain regions. So, the government is not allergic to criticism and advice," Mahfud MD tweeted on Wednesday, March 3.
The former Constitutional Court Chief believes the government's willingness to listen to criticism is also evident in the paid vaccination plan not too long ago which the government initially planned. This was met with heavy criticism that worried it would only provide Covid-19 vaccination for those who can afford it.
"There was criticism against that and said it should be free for all. The government accepted it and made available free of cost," he wrote. "Criticism is a vitamin that must be absorbed by the government's body."
