Antara, Jakarta – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno on Monday said that he plans to reopen Bali's tourism through a program entitled the 'Free Covid Corridor' which he said was formed based on input from tourism businesses in Bali that were often mentioned to the government in multiple occasions.

"We are preparing the Free Covid Corridor in Bali and a number of tourism destinations," said Sandiaga Uno in Monday's online dialogue on tourism and vaccinations.

However, he acknowledged that the term must be carefully interpreted and asserts the importance to suppress the spread of Covid-19 all while boosting the economy of regions that are heavily reliant on tourism as their main source of income.

Other tourism destinations that are initially eyed to be subject to the tourism corridor are Nusa Dua, Ubud, and Nusa Penida. The Minister is also eyeing international tourists from China and SIngapore initially.

However, Sandiaga Uno asserts that the implementation of this idea heavily depends on the mitigation of the area's government and residents in combating against Covid-19 and asserts that the success of this program will depend on society as a whole which can control the number of daily cases and "not letting cases to continue surging," he said.
