Sandiaga Uno has contracted COVID-19, the politician confirmed, shortly after his wife tested positive for the disease.
The former Jakarta vice governor and losing vice presidential candidate in 2019 shared the news after he took a PCR test yesterday.
"After taking a swab test today at my home, as a follow-up to Nur Asia's COVID-19 test that came out positive, it turns out that the result showed that I also tested positive for COVID-19," Sandiaga said in a statement yesterday.
Sandiaga said that he and his wife are asymptomatic and are self-isolating. His 9-year-old son Sulaiman and other members of his household all tested negative.
The Gerindra politician asked the public to pray for his and Nur Asia's health as well as those who are fighting the viral disease, along with a message to the public urging them to obey health protocols.
Sandiaga recently posted a photo of him and his wife during a trip to Egypt in late November, though he made no explicit connection between the trip and their diagnosis.
Precisely one week ago, the Jakarta Provincial Government announced that Governor Anies Baswedan tested positive for COVID-19, shortly after his deputy, Ahmad Riza "Ariza" Patria, was confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus.
Both Anies and Ariza said they were not exhibiting any serious symptoms and are both in self-isolation.
