Ghina Ghaliya, Jakarta – Thousands of students from the National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI) are set to take to the streets again on Tuesday to demand that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo revoke the recently passed Job Creation Law.
BEM SI coordinator Remy Hastian said on Monday that Tuesday's rally would be held near the State Palace in the Medan Merdeka area of Central Jakarta.
"The rally will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with an estimated 5,000 students from all over Indonesia joining," Remy said in a written statement.
Remy added that the students resented the government's reaction to the series of massive protests that began after the passage of the bill into law on Oct. 5.
"The government challenges the public to file for a judicial at the Constitutional Court when they could, in fact, revoke the law," he said.
The police will deploy 6,000 officers for Tuesday's rally, local media outlets reported.
Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat in Jakarta has been temporarily closed in anticipation of the demonstration.
In response to the planned rally, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD called on the protesters on Monday to be aware of intruders seeking to incite chaos.
"To the protesters I say, do rally, but please be careful with any intruders," Mahfud said on Monday in a video posted to the ministry's YouTube account.
