Egi Adyatama, Jakarta – Public demands pushing for Health Minister Terawan to resign from office is starting to build as the latest attempt came in the form of a petition at Change.org entitled 'Remove Terawan [from the position as] Health Minister'.
Up until October 6, 2020, the online petition that was initiated by a number of people representing various public elements has garnered 35,000 signatures.
The initiator of the petition claimed that the condition of Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has worsened within the past six months, and claimed that Minister Terawan had oversimplified the urgent matter and had arguably caused a worse case of the virus' infection.
The petition's initiator argued that the steps taken by Minister Terawan in dealing with the crisis had resulted in public distrust.
Several people signing the petition include executives of the University of Indonesia and the Jakarta State Islamic University, representatives from laborers, and national advocacy groups.
This is not the first petition against Terawan that was made at Change.org and is listed as the third asking for the health minister to resign.
