Jakarta – The Jakarta administration has set up three new isolation centers for COVID-19 patients as the capital continues to see a surge in new cases.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan issued Gubernatorial Decree No. 979 to officially designate the new COVID-19 isolation facilities on Tuesday.

The first isolation center is located at the Jakarta Islamic Center on Jl. Kramat Jaya, Tugu Utara Koja, North Jakarta.

The second is at Graha Wisata at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Cipayung, Ceger, East Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Graha Wisata Ragunan at the Jaya Raya Ragunan sports complex in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, has been converted into the third isolation facility.

According to the gubernatorial decree, the operational costs for the new isolation centers will be taken from the Jakarta regional budget.

Despite the Jakarta administration's decision to reimpose strict large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) on Sept. 14, the city is still regularly seeing more than 1,000 new confirmed cases daily.

According to the official government count, Jakarta has recorded 70,441 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 1,686 deaths as of Sunday. (nal)
