Jakarta – The Yogyakarta administration has found at least 20 cases of COVID-19 transmissions associated with a soto Lamongan (Lamongan traditional chicken soup) food stall.
"We recently found four new additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 from the soto Lamongan stall cluster," Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi told the press on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
According to him, the four positive cases came from customers who had dined at the food stall or consumed the meal at home. He further explained that the virus was likely transmitted through touchable items such as plates, drinking glasses and even food wrappers.
"COVID-19 protocols in food stalls, restaurants and cafes must also consider the touchable items and utensils," Heroe said.
The administration is still tracing customers and other people possibly linked to the cluster.
Heroe added that customers who had tested positive from the soto Lamongan stall cluster came from different parts of the city, including Bantul and Kotagede. "We are still waiting for reports from other customers," he concluded.
Following the relaxation of large-scale social restrictions in many regions, new COVID-19 clusters have also started to emerge.
The South Tangerang administration in Banten has seen new COVID-19 clusters emerging in a school after several staff members and teachers tested positive for COVID-19.
Several industrial zones have also emerged as a COVID-19 cluster with dozens of confirmed cases. Meanwhile, COVID-19 household clusters with families testing positive for the disease were also found in several regions. (trn)
