Heru Andriyanto, Jakarta – East Java has reported the highest number of coronavirus cases for the third day in a row on Wednesday, while confirmed cases in Central Java passed the 10,000 mark.

Only East Java, Jakarta and Central Java have reached the grim milestone, but South Sulawesi is only a few cases away to become the fourth.

East Java added 417 cases to take its total to 23,829 and extend lead over Jakarta in the total number of cases. It also reported the highest daily death toll, with 18 more Covid-19 deaths for a total of 1,799.

East Java has begun to outpace Jakarta again since two days ago.

Cases in Jakarta also rose significantly by 354, although daily trend has been slightly declining since Sunday, bringing the capital city's total to 23,380, including 14 deaths. At least 888 people have died from coronavirus in Jakarta as of Wednesday.

Central Java now has a total of 10,036 cases, 149 more from yesterday. It also reported the second highest daily death toll, with 15 more deaths for a total of 680.

West Java added 125 new cases, the first time in six days it saw a three-digit daily figure. The country's most populous province has recorded more than 6,900 cases since the outbreak.

South Sulawesi also saw a three-digit rise and was only 13 cases shy of the 10,000 mark.

The country reported 1,815 new cases nationwide, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 116,871.

The daily death toll has been reduced to two digits since two weeks ago, including 64 more deaths on Wednesday to bring the total number of fatalities to 5,452.

The number of cured Covid-19 patients beat Wednesday's new cases, as the country reported 1,839 more recoveries.

Nearly 74,000 Covid-19 patients in Indonesia have been cured or discharged from hospitals since the outbreak.

But Southeast Asia's biggest country still has 37,530 active cases, the biggest in the region.
