Yudha Baskoro, Jakarta – Nightclub workers in Jakarta held a rally in front of City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday demanding reopening of their workplaces as they sought to end the purgatory from losing productivity in the last few months.

They claimed that the temporary closure during the Covid-19 pandemic has hit them hard economically and urged Governor Anies Baswedan to immediately reopen nightclubs in the capital city.

Tens of nightclub owners and their workers who attended the rally promised that they will strictly honor the health protocol once the business is allowed to resume.

They also claimed that around 19,000 workers have lost their jobs and income sources since nightclubs were shut as the city began to implement social restrictions in mid-April.

Like many other leisure businesses, nightclubs were among the first to be ordered to shut in the wake of the pandemic, which so far has infected nearly 90,000 people in the country.

The protest ended at noon amid traffic jam resulting from their rally on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.
