Jakarta – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri has revealed that the antigraft body has put Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician Harun Masiku, who is implicated in bribery allegations, on its most-wanted list.
"We have [put Harun on the most-wanted list]. I forget the exact time, but we have put him on the list," Firli said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.
The KPK accused Harun of bribing General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, who allegedly asked for Rp 900 million (US$66,000) in exchange for his approval for the politician to fill the seat of a deceased politician in the House of Representatives. Harun is still at large after the KPK named him a bribery suspect on Jan 9.
Apart from ordering the graft busters to immediately detain Harun, Firli added he had sent a request to the National Police to help with arresting the politician.
"Members of the public should also provide any useful information on the suspect's whereabouts. We also demand that Harun cooperate on the matter," he said.
KPK investigators would also verify information that Harun had been in Indonesia since a day prior to the graft busters' operation to arrest Wahyu, Firli went on to say.
Both the KPK and the Law and Human Rights Ministry have claimed that Harun is still abroad after having left Indonesia for Singapore on Jan. 6. The Immigration Office claimed it had yet to record Harun's return to the country.
However, investigations by Tempo magazine found that Harun had returned to Indonesia on Jan 7. CCTV footage obtained by Tempo caught Harun making his way through the immigration gate and exiting the airport.
Several witnesses also told Tempo that they claimed to have met and talked to Harun after Jan. 7, one of them saying they saw the politician in Thamrin Residence Apartments in Central Jakarta.
The KPK has so far named four people suspects in the case, including Wahyu and former Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) member Agustiani Tio Fridelina for allegedly accepting the bribes. Harun and businessman Saeful are accused of giving the illicit money. (kuk)
