M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – The U.S. Marine Corps is celebrating its 244th anniversary in November 2019. It coincides with the 70 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Indonesia.

US Marine Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Lt. Gen. Joseph L. Osterman, visited the US Embassy in Indonesia on November 17-22, saying that the partnership between US Marine Corps and Indonesia should continue.

"We really appreciate this partnership," he said in the US Embassy press release on Friday, November 29.

Osterman said he will consider continuing the cooperation with the Indonesian Marine Corps, starting from training and disaster mitigation ability. Currently, both parties have 240 programs yearly and the Indonesian military (TNI) sends hundreds of its members to join the US military school every year.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Indonesia, Joseph R. Donovan Jr, said that the celebration of a 70-year diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and the United States also celebrates the diversity between the two countries.

"During this year, we've been highlighting various places, stories, and dreams that show a broad partnership of America and Indonesia," Donovan remarked.
