Jakarta (Antara) – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially urged state ministers to emulate the United States' policymaking, which he said involved retracting the previous set of ministerial decrees before introducing new ones.

"We should be able to do the same in Indonesia where forty Ministers' Decrees are dropped before issuing one new decree. We have too many of them here," said the president in a meeting on job creation programs held at the president's office in Jakarta today.

Jokowi deemed that this strategy would be able to solve the issues regarding Indonesia's regulatory ecosystem, especially in boosting the creation of job opportunities. Prior to his call, Jokowi had often reminded his state ministers to review regulations that were hampering progress.

"If it hampers [progress], then just cut it out of the system. In terms of what the Constitution mandates, we will gather them and create an omnibus law that will later be discussed with the House of Representatives (DPR)," said President Jokowi.

Besides the omnibus law, Jokowi also planned to slim down the country's bureaucracy in the ministerial level. He maintained that investments and the creation of job opportunities must be prioritized.
