Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – The House of Representatives (DPR) asserted it would not meddle with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decision on a government's regulation in lieu of law or Perpu to revoke the Law on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)."I don't know about it yet, I haven't heard [the news]. That is the President's business, we cannot meddle [with the matter]," said House deputy speaker Azis Syamsudin at the DPR Complex, Jakarta, Monday, November 4.

Azis said the KPK Law had already taken effect, so the issuance of a Perpu required certain conditions. "We will see it later. If a Law is valid, issuing a Perpu needs requirements," said the Golkar politician.

President Jokowi announced last Friday he would not issue a KPK Perpu in the near future as a material test of the amended Law was still afoot at the Constitutional Court (MK).

"A material test shall not be overwritten with another decision. I think we must be respectful in state structure activities," said Jokowi at the Presidential Palace on Friday, November 1.

The President's statement contrasted with his previous remarks after meeting with 40 national figures on September 26. At that time, Jokowi said he was mulling over issuing a Perpu.

Jokowi's stance has sparked the outcries of some parties as the amended KPK Law was deemed detrimental to the anti-graft body. A series of students' demonstrations against the newly-passed KPK Law were staged in many cities, in which five lives were lost allegedly due to the police' acts of repression.
