Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – Gerindra Party politician Supratman Andi Agtas suggested that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo should invite the leaders of the factions in the Parliament to discuss the controversial revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK Law.

Supratman opined the President should not only ask for his coalition's opinion, but also the leaders of the factions from the non-government coalition.

"[He discussed it with] the coalition yesterday, now [the talks should be held with] those outside of the coalition. It is not a wrong move for the President to invite and ask for views of the political party chairs," said Supratman in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, October 7.

Supratman referred to the meeting of Jokowi and the higher-ups of his coalition parties last Monday, Sept. 30. The President invited five chairs and five secretaries-general of his supporting parties to the Bogor Palace to discuss several issues, including the KPK Law.

During the session, the coalition parties suggested a government regulation in lieu of law or Perpu as the last resort. They deemed there were other options that could be explored, especially a legislative review or revising the law again together with the House of Representatives (DPR).

Supratman supported the idea of a legislative review. According to him, revising the recently-passed KPK Law could be carried out within a short time if there was a prior agreement between the government and the legislative.

He also conveyed his support to the issuance of a Perpu as long as it was related to the mechanism of the formation of the supervisory board. In the KPK Law, the appointment of the board fell in the President's authority.

Meanwhile, the Gerindra Party suggested the supervisory board should consist of two people tapped by President Jokowi, two from DPR, and one from the KPK as ex officio.
