Jakarta (Antara) – A number of residents, who are being evacuated from Jayawijaya, Papua due to Wamena riot, are starting to suffer from diarrhea and skin disease at the refugee camps.

"Poor conditions and limited facilities in the evacuation post cause refugees to be vulnerable to illnesses," said Social Affairs Ministry's Director-General of Social Protection and Security, Harry Hikmat, Thursday, October 3.

In addition to diarrhea and skin itching, they are also suffering from cough and fever.

From September 23 to October 2, as many as 1,864 refugees are seeking medical treatment, and eight are hospitalized, Harry added.

Social Ministry has sent aid worth Rp3.8 billion to help victims of the deadly riot in Wamena. The aid includes logistic needs, productive economic business assistance, and compensation for relatives of dead victims.

The aid is distributed in the form of public kitchens for 5,000 people, 1,500 packages of children's clothes, 1,500 packages of men's clothes, 1,500 packages of women's clothes, 2,500 mattresses, 1,500 tents, 2,500 blankets, and 100 units of productive economic business assistance.
