Galuh Putri Riyanto, Jakarta – The police denied claims posted to Twitter that a student in West Papua was shot by a police officer. The tweet was posted by @AfricaRepublic yesterday, 9 September.
"That's a hoax," Police Headquarters' chief of Public Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said via text message on Tuesday, September 10.
The tweet claimed that the student was shot by a member of the police and could not be taken to a hospital, because the police shut down the hospital.
The tweet included a short video claimed to a footage of the situation during the incident, which led to the student being treated in a school dormitory in Makassar.
Dedi asserted that the information tweeted was false. And the locals, he said, are conducting their daily activities normally.
"In general, after the law enforcement acts by police members in Papua and West Papua, things have returned to normal," he said.
