Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – The social media monitoring institution, Drone Emprit, analyzed the mass protest demanding the dissolution of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Senayan, Jakarta, on August 25th. Drone Emprit found that the idea of dismissing the legislative institution had emerged long before the demonstration at the DPR building took place.

The Executive Director of Drone Emprit, Ismail Fahmi, said that the idea of dissolving the DPR often comes up in public conversations whenever negative news about the parliament emerges. In the data analysis conducted from August 10th to 26th, 2025, the idea of dismissing DPR first surfaced on the social media platform X and YouTube on August 15th, 2025.

The narrative of dismissing the legislative institution also appeared on various social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram on August 19th, and TikTok on August 22nd, 2025.

Fahmi stated that there are indications of groups amplifying the conversation about dissolving the DPR on social media. "This has sparked public discussion as to whether these accounts are riding the wave or actually creating waves of protests on social media," Fahmi said in his statement on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025.

In addition, he found that the narrative of dissolving the DPR is suspected to be due to public sentiment towards the legislators. Fahmi said the public is dissatisfied with the DPR's performance, which has created a crisis of trust.

Public protests against the DPR, he said, are caused by the provision of housing allowances of Rp50 million per month, despite their performance being deemed suboptimal. Public anger has also been caused by some DPR members' arrogant response to people's aspirations.

"The call for dissolving the DPR is positioned as a drastic solution because this institution is considered not to represent the people," he said.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation, Muhammad Isnur, said that the public's demand for the dissolution of the DPR can be interpreted as a signal that the public is dissatisfied with the performance of the legislative institution. Although the DPR was dissolved during the era of President Sukarno, he said it is difficult to do so in the present time.

"In terms of the target, dissolving the DPR is considered difficult because it is the integral building block of the constitution," he said on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025.
