Anastasya Lavenia Yudi, Jakarta – The Forum Indonesia for Budget Transparency (Fitra) has revealed a significant increase in the 2025 salary and allowance budget for members of the House of Representatives (DPR).

According to the DPR's State Budget Implementation List (DIPA) reviewed by Fitra, the allocation for the 580 members is Rp1.6 trillion. This marks a substantial jump from the Rp1.2 trillion allocated for 575 members in 2023 and Rp1.19 trillion in 2024.

According to Bernard Allvitro, a researcher at Fitra's National Secretariat, each DPR member could potentially receive an average of Rp2.8 billion per year, or Rp230 million per month.

"If we look at the source from DIPA, they can pocket Rp230 million per month. This is certainly far above the average income of the Indonesian population in general," Bernard stated during a virtual discussion on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Bernard also highlighted the DPR members' housing allowance, which has recently drawn widespread public attention. With a monthly amount of Rp50 million per member, Fitra asserts that this budget allocation does not reflect a sense of fiscal responsibility, particularly as the government is currently promoting budget efficiency.

Bernard believes that this huge allocation for salaries and allowances ultimately creates a financial burden for the public. "Fitra considers that the DPR has failed to exercise restraint and set an example in budget management. Instead, this shows that there are privileges received by DPR members," he said.

Previously, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani denied any increase in DPR members' salaries. Puan clarified that the mentioned salary is actually compensation for the DPR's official residence, as members no longer receive government housing.

Puan stated that the monthly allowance of approximately Rp50 million for all 580 DPR members from 38 provinces has been thoroughly vetted. "It has been thoroughly reviewed according to the existing conditions or prices in Jakarta because their office is located in Jakarta," Puan said after a plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Regarding the public criticism, Puan claimed that the DPR leadership remains attentive to public concerns. She encouraged the public to monitor the performance of the council members. "If there are things that are considered still not perfect, still too excessive, of course, we will evaluate them," Puan concluded.
