Abdul Manan, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Balikpapan Station detected 169 hotspots spread across East Kalimantan Province.

"These hotspots were monitored throughout Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 01.00 to 24.00 WITA," said Data and Information Coordinator of Class I Station Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan, Diyan Novrida in Balikpapan, Friday, April 12, 2024.

The distribution of these hotspots has been conveyed by BMKG to Manggala Agni, the Fire Care Community, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the Rescue and Fire Fighting Service at both the provincial and district/city levels, so that there is action according to procedures.

The number of hotspots increased dramatically from the day before, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, monitored at 32 points. The 169 hotspots are spread across five regencies or cities, namely in Bontang City (2 hotspots), West Kutai Regency (40), East Kutai (86), Kutai Kartanegara (37), and Berau Regency (4).

Given the increase in hotspots, BMKG asked all parties to be vigilant. "Vigilance is necessary because a number of areas are still experiencing hot weather for several consecutive days, which causes branches, twigs, and leaves to dry out, which is prone to fire," Diyan said.
