Agencies, Jakarta – Losing presidential candidate Anies Baswedan has asked the Constitutional Court to order an election re-run that exclude President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's son from the ticket, his lawyer Ari Yusuf Amir said on Thursday.

The president's son Gibran Rakabuming Raka was running with the winning ticket of Prabowo Subianto and the team of Anies maintains he was unfairly allowed to join the race due to the court's last-minute change of eligibility rules.

The lawyer said a re-run would ensure there was no "meddling". The president's allies have denied any political interference.

Anies' legal team said its case contains evidence showing Jokowi's government used social assistance to influence the election outcome, which it has rejected.

The Anies team has complained about the widespread allocation of social assistance, such as rice, fertiliser and cash handouts, in key electoral areas, which they said influenced the vote. The administration has rejected that.

They have also criticised the Constitutional Court's last-minute decision last year to change election rules, which allowed the president's son to become Prabowo's running mate.

The court's chief justice at the time was Jokowi's brother-in-law.

The judge was reprimanded by an ethics panel for intentionally allowing "intervention from an external party", which it did not name, but he was allowed to keep his seat on the bench.

Meanwhile, losing presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo on Thursday said his team was preparing to file a complaint to Constitutional Court over the result of the presidential election won by Prabowo.

Ganjar said he would file the complaint on Friday or Saturday. His comments came just two hours after Anies filed a similar case.
